First Seminars Completed in Kigali

Rwanda flagUnder the overall banner of What Exceptional Leaders Do, Leadership Development Africa rolled out its first two leadership seminars in Rwanda in September. Hosted at Kigali's Serena Hotel, the seminars drew leaders from both the private and public sectors.

Among those in attendance were 29 mayors from across Rwanda, executives from major regional banks, staff members from the genocide memorial, and many others.

The first program, a morning seminar on September 22, examined the principles for building a high-performance organization. A week later, on September 28-29, a two-day seminar looked at five distinguishing hallmarks of effective leaders.

While dates are still being confirmed for the next round of trainings, Leadership Development Africa is already working with a high-tech firm as a consultant and will conduct a team-building retreat with one of Rwanda's primary banks in early November.

Rwandan Officials Endorse Training Plans
Office Now Open in Kigali

Rwandan Prime Minister Makuza receives Mike Armour in his office to discuss leadership training plans for government and business leaders in Rwanda
Prime Minister Bernard Makuza welcomes Dr. Mike Armour of Leadership Development Africa to his office.

After meetings in the spring of 2011 found broad-based support in Rwanda for our training programs, we moved to register officially and to open an office in Kigali.

The office, a branch of Strategic Leadership Development International, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, was staffed in July. And we are now offering both public trainings and in-house programs for governmental and privately-owned organizations.

On 28 April 2011 Dr. Mike Armour and Joseph Nyaisa, the principals in Leadership Development Africa, met with Prime Minister Bernard Makuza; then with Minister of Cabinet Affairs Protais Musoni; and later with Minister of Local Government James Musoni to discuss leadership training needs at both local and national levels.

At the request of the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mike also conducted a leadership training program for members of the ministry's staff on 29 April.

That same day the two men met with Robert Mayigamba and Roger Munyampenda, at the time the Chairman and CEO respectively of the Private Sector Federation. The discussion centered on a variety of training needs nationwide in the small business community.

Based on these conversations with government and business leaders, and from feedback received from participants in our first two seminars in September, we are designing leadership seminars around topics with widespread interest among leaders in Rwanda.
